In this Jersey Heard podcast episode, Yiow Chong Tan, our Director – South East Asia, discusses all things crypto with Christopher Griffin, Partner at Carey Olsen.
Jersey has developed a well-respected and forward-thinking funds sector that offers regimes from retail options through to the more sophisticated and institutional end of the market.
The Jersey Private Fund (JPF) was introduced in April 2017. By being cost-effective, flexible and swift to market, the structure has genuinely become a go-to vehicle, particularly when it comes to private capital co-investment and cross-border institutional alternative fund structuring.
Digitalisation, or tokenisation, in the asset management industry is picking up pace and is set to transform the traditional finance world. This research provides insights from investors, fund managers, virtual asset service providers (VASPs) and fund directors. It also includes contributions from the Government of Jersey, Jersey Financial Services Commission and Digital Jersey.
In 2023, Jersey adopted the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) definition of ‘Virtual Assets’ (VAs) and ‘Virtual Asset Service Providers’ (VASPs), which ensured that VASPs were brought within scope of our Anti Money Laundering (AML), countering the financing of terrorism (CFT), and countering proliferation financing (CPF) regulation. Alternative definitions and language, including digital assets and crypto assets, are used widely in the international financial services industry and are included here, and this also serves to ensure that the content is accessible to all.
