Judges awarded Capital International (Jersey) Limited the Leader in the Mobilisation of Capital to the SDGs Award
At Capital International (Jersey) Limited (CIJL), we believe capital, when deployed with purpose, can be a powerful force for change. Being recognised as Leader in the Mobilisation of Capital to the SDGs reflects that belief in action. It also reflects our wider Conscious Capital philosophy, which defines how we operate, invest and grow. We believe long-term success is achieved not only through financial performance, but through the positive value we create for our clients, our people, our communities and the planet.
Our award entry focused on the CI Better World Growth Fund, a global multi-asset strategy designed to channel client capital into companies aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Structured as an Irish-domiciled UCITS, the Fund invests in c.15 underlying funds, the majority of which are classified as Article 9 under SFDR – representing a high level of sustainable investment intent.
The Fund gives clients a clear and accessible way to integrate sustainability into their portfolios, whether through long-term pensions or discretionary mandates. Today, around £30 million is invested in dedicated sustainable strategies at CIJL, reflecting ongoing client demand for solutions that align financial objectives with broader societal goals.
Beyond the Fund itself, we have mobilised capital through partnerships and innovative financing structures. This includes supporting the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (DWCT), to which we donate a portion of investment fees, contributing over £100,000 to biodiversity projects. Client capital has also helped enable rewilding initiatives, such as DWCT’s restoration project of The Dalnacardoch Estate demonstrating how private wealth can directly support environmental outcomes.
Our approach is underpinned by Conscious Capital, the philosophy that helps define Capital International as a business. At its core is the group’s mission to become a Net Positive organisation – one that gives back more than it takes. This mission is guided by four strategic themes: Investing Responsibly, Financial Wellbeing, Climate Change and Community Impact. Through this framework, we integrate environmental and social considerations into investment decisions, stewardship and client engagement.
Our role does not stop at investment selection. We actively engage with underlying fund managers, assessing stewardship practices, impact reporting and sustainability metrics on an ongoing basis to ensure that capital is being deployed responsibly and effectively – this is then reported in our Annual Impact Report.
We also play an active role beyond our portfolios. CIJL contributes to Jersey’s Sustainable Finance Steering Committee and has helped shape the island’s Sustainable Finance Action Plan. Internally and across the industry, we support education through carbon literacy training and participation in initiatives such as the Future Sustainable Finance Leaders group.
This award recognises more than a single strategy – it reflects our belief that capital has a critical role to play in shaping progress towards a better world. By offering this solution to our clients, we are not only supporting financial outcomes but contributing to a broader transition towards a more sustainable global economy.
For us, this work is both a responsibility and an opportunity. It strengthens client relationships, deepens community engagement and reinforces our purpose: to make money work better for clients, people and the planet.
CIJL is regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission.
