Reaching New Heights in Support of Dementia Jersey

Last month, our Executive Director and Head of Risk and Operations, Chloë Blampied, took part in the Dementia Jersey charity abseil, descending 20 metres (66 feet) down the historic walls of Mont Orgueil Castle.

After completing 1.5-hour training at Noirmont Point in September, the event was postponed due to bad weather and rescheduled for October.

Although Chloë has completed a number of smaller abseils before, the chance to descend the walls of Mont Orgueil Castle had long been a personal ambition, making this challenge all the more memorable.

“It always looks high from the ground, but once you’re at the top and the wind is blowing, it feels even higher. The most daunting part was clambering over the railing, then suddenly you’re on your way down, and it’s over before you know it.”

More than 25 volunteers completed the challenge, raising over £8,000 this year and bringing the total since Dementia Jersey launched its annual abseil challenge three years ago to £35,000. These funds go directly towards supporting people in Jersey living with dementia and their families.
