Virteffic is marking its sixth anniversary this September by reflecting on how client demand and changing governance requirements have shaped its evolution from a broad remote support business into a specialist provider of governance and company secretarial services.
Founded in 2020 by Tess Price following her departure from a director role within a regulated financial services business, Virteffic launched during the COVID-19 pandemic at a time when organisations were rapidly adapting to new ways of working and reassessing how professional services could be delivered remotely.
While the original business model was intentionally broad, it quickly became apparent that clients were seeking support in several core areas, particularly governance, company secretarial services and minute writing. As demand for these services increased, the business evolved naturally, recruiting experienced governance professionals and expanding its support for Boards, committees, governance teams and regulated organisations across Jersey, Guernsey and beyond.
Reflecting on the milestone, Tess Price, Founder and Managing Director of Virteffic, said:
“One of the most interesting aspects of the last six years is that the business we have today was shaped largely through client demand and the governance challenges organisations asked us to help solve. While the original concept was intentionally broad, it quickly became apparent that organisations valued practical governance expertise, flexible company secretarial support and experienced professionals who could integrate seamlessly into existing teams.”
As governance expectations continue to evolve, organisations are increasingly focusing on Board effectiveness, governance quality, regulatory compliance, succession planning and, more recently, the governance implications of artificial intelligence.
In response, Virteffic has continued to invest in its people, technology and governance capabilities throughout 2026. This has included the continued development of the Virteffic Academy, investment in governance resources and methodologies, and the expansion of its Board Effectiveness Review service line.
Tess believes this reflects wider trends across the finance industry.
“Boards today operate in an increasingly complex environment. Governance has become more visible, expectations continue to rise and organisations face new challenges around technology, accountability and oversight. We are seeing increasing demand for experienced governance professionals who can provide practical support while also contributing broader governance insight.”
Alongside its governance and company secretarial services, Virteffic has placed greater emphasis on Board Effectiveness Reviews, governance training and the sharing of practical governance insight through its Governance in Practice thought leadership programme.
The anniversary also coincides with a significant personal milestone for Tess. While Virteffic celebrates six years in September, October will mark twenty years since she relocated to Jersey after completing university studies and an early career in Stockholm.
Over the past two decades, she has built her career within Jersey’s finance industry, working across governance, company secretarial and leadership roles before establishing Virteffic in 2020. Reflecting on both milestones, she believes the experience gained over that period has reinforced the growing importance of practical governance, strong professional relationships and the value of experienced governance professionals within modern organisations.
“When I arrived in Jersey twenty years ago, the finance industry looked very different. Governance has become increasingly important, Boards are facing greater scrutiny and organisations are operating in a far more complex environment. While technology and regulation continue to evolve, the importance of good judgement, professional integrity and strong relationships remains unchanged. Those lessons have shaped my career and continue to influence how we support clients today.”
As the business enters its seventh year, Virteffic expects governance to remain firmly on Board agendas, particularly as organisations continue to consider how technology, artificial intelligence and changing stakeholder expectations should be governed responsibly.
“Technology will continue to change how organisations operate, but the importance of strong governance, professional judgement and experienced people is not diminishing. If anything, those qualities are becoming more valuable. The future will continue to require organisations to balance innovation with appropriate oversight, and governance professionals have an important role to play in helping Boards navigate that journey.”
While the anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on progress, the business remains focused on the future. Continued investment in people, technology, expertise and client relationships is expected to underpin the next phase of Virteffic’s development as it continues supporting governance teams, regulated organisations and Boards across the Channel Islands.
