e-Programme
Welcome from Joe Moynihan,  Chief Executive Officer,  Jersey Finance

A persistently volatile economic and geopolitical global picture combined with a boom in technological advancements, heightened regulatory oversight and scrutiny and greater sustainability concerns have super charged the complexity of international finance considerably.

Meanwhile the increasingly global ambitions of investors and wealthy families have placed a greater emphasis on the international capabilities and expertise of the jurisdictions that support them.

The result of these shifting expectations and demands is significantly greater pressure on the providers of solutions and services to the world’s affluent clients – and this in turn has put the importance of working together and genuine cooperation sharply into focus.

Greater collaboration has the potential to smoothen the regulatory playing field, drive excellence in financial services provision and support our global ambitions as an industry.

That is why our conference this year centres on ‘Forging Strategic Alliances’, with our keynote speaker and expert practitioners primed to explore the power of collaboration to drive excellence in international finance.

As an IFC, a cooperative mindset is part of our DNA. Jersey has a long history of such collaboration in the Gulf region; Jersey Finance established its UAE hub in 2011 and in 2018 we became the first IFC to establish a presence in the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC).

Our desire to forge greater alliances with the region has seen us form information exchange agreements with several GCC countries, sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the DIFC, and deepen our expertise as a leading provider of Shari’a-compliant corporate structuring.

Today’s event will explore how we can deepen those connections further, encourage greater sharing of expertise and facilitate the seamless flow of capital.

We believe collaboration will be the defining feature of the next decade in financial services and by working together, we can empower other leading jurisdictions, and the firms they house, to thrive in an ever more interconnected global landscape.

Joe Moynihan

With a career in financial services spanning four decades, Joe has a strong commitment to the future success of the industry in Jersey.

Joe commenced his professional life in the banking sector, rising to the position of CEO of Jersey and the Isle of Man for a major bank, which included responsibilities for trusts and investments. In recent years, he expanded his focus as Director of Financial Services within the Government of Jersey, where he worked closely with industry and regulator to ensure the island’s position as a leading international finance centre. Before joining Jersey Finance in February 2019, Joe was working to establish high-reputation regulatory frameworks and business models for IFCs in the Middle East and Africa. He is a board director of the World Alliance of International Finance Centers (WAIFC).
