Faizal BhanaDirector – Middle East, Africa and India, Jersey Finance

Profile

Faizal is a UK qualified lawyer and for many years has worked and advised, and is a trusted advisor to institutions, corporates and families across the Middle East, Africa and India. Faizal specialises in banking and finance and has advised corporates, family offices and families including on their international investment and holding structures.

Farida AbbasChief Executive Officer, British Chamber of Commerce Kenya

Farida Abbas is the CEO of the British Chamber of Commerce in Kenya. She is appointed to provide leadership and strategic vision to the Chamber by identifying, evaluating, and developing trade and investment opportunities between Kenya and the United Kingdom.
Farida comes from a background in sustainable business development and leadership development and thrives on growing SME capacity building. She is renowned as a strategic thinker and a creative problem solver who can focus on complex challenges and turn them into tangible, quantifiable strategies for businesses and individuals.
She is fully aware of the significance of establishing relationships of trust and transparency to engage multiple key stakeholders for growth and expansion. Farida draws on work from her experience with the FTSE 100 companies in Kenya, including Diageo, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline and G4S.

Nick HolderDeputy CEO, Prudential Africa

Nick is currently overseeing the operations of Prudential’s Regional Hub, which was moved from London to Nairobi last year. The Hub supports Prudential’s businesses in eight African countries and became the first member of the Nairobi International Financial Centre in July this year. Nick has been working in the Prudential Group since 2002 in the UK, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Nick served as Chief Financial Officer for Prudential Vietnam from 2009-2014 and as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Corporate Development Officer & Chief Financial Officer for Prudential Indonesia between 2014 and 2021. In August 2021, he relocated to Nairobi. He currently sits on several Boards in the Prudential Group, including for Prudential Life Assurance Kenya. From 2011 to 2014, Nick was the Chairman of the British Business Group in Vietnam. In Indonesia, he was on the board of the British Chamber of Commerce from 2015 to 2021.

Neil Wigan OBEHis Majesty’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya

Neil Wigan OBE is His Majesty’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya. Previously, Neil was Ambassador to the State of Israel from June 2019 to June 2023. He also served as Director for Africa at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) from November 2015 to September 2018, British Ambassador to Somalia from June 2013 to July 2015, and British Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo from March 2010 to March 2013. Neil has also worked in the Cabinet Office, working for the Prime Minister’s Foreign Policy Adviser, and on Middle Eastern and EU economic issues within the FCO. He has a BA from Oxford University, an MSc in Economics from the University of London and did postgraduate studies at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. Before joining the FCO, he worked at the Bank of England and as an economist in the private sector.

Abubakar Hassan AbubakarMinistry of Investments, Trade and Industry

Abubakar embodies the synergy of legal prowess, financial acumen, and investment expertise. His journey has been marked by an unwavering commitment to mobilize capital, allocate resources, and protect the interests of investors. His mandate as the PS is to develop and implement investment policies, and coordinate the promotion of private investment into the Kenyan economy both foreign and domestic investment with the aim of positioning Kenya as a preferred premier destination in Africa. Abubakar's mission is to ignite a transformative wave in the Kenyan economy. With a resolute dedication to the Bottom Up Economic Transformation agenda. The state department for Investment Promotion aims at attracting private investments, both foreign and domestic, as the fuel to propel sustainable growth and unleash Kenya's true potential.

Sonal TejparPartner, ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna

Sonal is a Partner at ALN Kenya| Anjarwalla & Khanna, one of the leading law firms in Kenya, and has been with the firm for over 25 years. She heads the firm’s Banking, Finance and Insolvency practice and has considerable experience in aviation finance, banking, syndicated and project finance, restructurings, data protection, insolvency, corporate commercial matters and employment. She is also recognised for her expertise in Tanzanian law. Sonal is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a licensed Insolvency Practitioner in Kenya (one of the first lawyers in the entire country to have qualified as such). Sonal is a regular speaker at seminars on various aspects of banking and commercial law, including seminars organised by the UK-based Loan Market Association. She also sits on the Task Force established by the Official Receiver to review changes to the Insolvency Act and Regulations.
