Perspectives: Women in Leadership

Based in Johannesburg, Dr Rufaro Nyakatawa’s primary focus is developing the strategy for Jersey Finance’s engagement in the South African market. She also plays a vital role in supporting the organisation’s wider activity across the continent.

Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is former United Nations Under- Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women.
She engaged in international work at a young age campaigning for girls and young women around the world with The YWCA, where she was head of young women. As the head of UNwomen she was a campaigner for inclusion of women and girls. She established initiatives such as HeForShe for men and boys to address gender Equality. She became Minister of Minerals and Energy and worked on sustainability, positioning of South Africa's mining industry. Addressed issues of labour and communities that are related to mining and introduced far reaching reforms and enabled the best relations between mining companies, labour and government. She became Deputy President of South Africa in 2005 to 2008, Dr. Mlambo- Ngcuka worked tirelessly on programmes and policies to reduce poverty and inequality in South Africa.
