What to expect

Our event is an opportunity to speak to current representatives from local financial services firms. You will be able to ask them questions, hear how they overcame obstacles, and discover what worked best for them to help shape their career.

Who is this event aimed at?

This event is for anyone interested in knowing more about re-joining or re-skilling into the finance and related professional services industry.

You could be a parent who has taken time out of work to look after your children, someone who needs to work flexibly to look after sick or elderly family members or someone who is looking for a career change.

Emma PichonReturner

After taking time out following the birth of her children, Emma spent a year working in education before returning to the finance industry. Her flexible, reduced working hours provide a better work/life and financial balance for her family, while allowing her to continue progressing and developing her career in a sustainable way.

Christopher GriffinCareer switcher

Chris is a partner in Carey Olsen’s Investment Funds team and leads the firm’s digital assets/crypto team in Jersey. He moved to Jersey with his young family in 2011, after spending ten years in London at two large law firms and as in-house counsel at a large hedge fund manager. After studying History at the University of Bristol, Chris spent five years in the British Army as an infantry officer before attending law school to retrain as a UK solicitor. For anyone nervous about switching careers or returning to work, Chris recommends reading "The 100-Year Life."

Amy began her career studying and working within the childcare sector, alongside roles in hospitality, before moving into retail banking with no previous experience or qualifications in financial services. Amy is now a Senior Operations Officer at Jersey Finance and her role spans a broad range of operational areas, projects and initiatives across the organisation.

Stephen BosworthCareer switcher

Stephen is Head of Legal for UBS in the Channel Islands, having previously been legal counsel for UBS Wealth Management in London. Before joining UBS in 2008, Stephen was an acquisition finance lawyer at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, where he trained and qualified. Prior to retraining as a lawyer, Stephen was a professional violinist. He graduated with a Masters degree from the Royal Academy of Music in 1994. As a violinist, Stephen played professionally with various London orchestras, led the Arteaga String Quartet and taught at King’s College, London, Hurstpierpoint College and St John’s School Leatherhead.

With over 20yrs experience in the hospitality industry in both kitchens and front-of-house roles, I had a very broad understanding of the industry and, most importantly, how to work with people. In 2023 my wife and made the decision to move to Jersey (I was the trailing spouse), I decided this was the perfect time for a career change. This led me to the finance industry, having never worked in an office environment, this was quite the change. I got a job with BNP Paribas in one of their trainee programs. I worked my way through the programme and now I’m a Senior fund Administrator. I am thoroughly enjoying my new role and the challenges that it brings.

I started working in hospitality when I was a teenager, and after leaving to attend university for language and translation studies, I returned to Jersey and continued working full-time across various different positions in the hospitality sector. My current job as Customer Services Executive at Butterfield Bank allows me to use the skills I’ve learned from my front-of-house days, as well as providing me with all sorts of new and interesting challenges.

What format will Reconnect take?  

We want this event to be really informal and all about you. We aim to help you answer any questions you might have about either re-joining the world of finance or starting a career in the industry.

Is there a cost to attend Reconnect?  

No, Reconnect is free of charge.

Do I have to register to attend?

Do I have to be a Jersey Finance Member to attend?  

No, this is a public event for anyone interested in working in the finance industry.

Is there a dress code? 

There is no dress code for the event.

Can I bring children with me?  

We would recommend that to get the best out of the session that you arrange childcare. If childcare will prevent you from attending, please email us and we can speak to you directly to discuss alternative resources we can provide.
