I’m honoured to have received the ‘Future Individual Influencer’ award at the Jersey Finance Sustainable Finance Awards this year.

There are so many individuals in the finance industry in Jersey who have influenced and supported me over the past 18 months, and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of such a forward-thinking and passionate community.

I joined True Limited as a Sustainability Associate in 2023. True primarily works with financial services clients, but we also support organisations across other industries. Very early in my role, I was introduced to Tori Davis, Ali Cambray, and Indiana Latimer from PwC, and Tom McKenna from Jersey Finance. I had the opportunity to play a key role in developing the Jersey Finance SDG Alignment Tool, subcontracting through PwC. This project was a pivotal moment in my career – I learned so much about sustainable finance over the three months I spent immersed in it, and it sparked a deeper passion for the space.

Later in 2023, I completed the Equilibrium Futures Sustainable Finance course, and became hooked on the idea of learning more – and influencing others to do the same. Not long after, I helped found the Future Sustainable Finance Leaders (FSFL) group. Today, FSFL has over 90 members, and we’ve hosted 9 successful events focused on upskilling professionals across the finance industry in sustainable finance topics.

At True, I work closely with clients to measure their carbon footprints and develop practical plans to reduce emissions. I also help organisations identify their key areas of sustainability risk and impact, and support the development of strategies that align closely with their core business goals. For me, sustainability should never be a ‘side-of-desk’ task – it must be embedded in the heart of business strategy.

Since I was young, I’ve been deeply passionate about nature and social development. After completing a joint honours degree in Business and Geography, my career began in climate tech. I’ve always been committed to making a positive impact. My purpose is to influence both businesses and individuals to care for and consider our most valuable – yet often underserved – asset: the planet.

In addition to my work at True and FSFL, I also run the Ambassador Programme for Ocean Culture Life, a global storytelling charity. My goal is to ensure that our grants, events, and storytelling opportunities are made available to communities in the Global South – those who often feel the greatest impact of climate change, despite contributing the least to the problem.

The climate is changing rapidly. We’re all experiencing the consequences, and the main driver is business. If businesses don’t start caring about where their money comes from – and where it goes – they simply won’t exist in the future. Sustainable finance is no longer a ‘nice to have’ – it’s a ‘must do’. Businesses that aren’t changing are already falling behind.

Through my passion and dedication to sustainable finance – both inside and outside of my day job – I hope I can influence others to take meaningful action. The Jersey Finance Sustainable Finance Awards are an important way to recognise the organisations and individuals taking steps in the right direction. We might be a small island, but we have the ability and power to make a big difference. I hope these awards continue to inspire and motivate others.

Finally, the ‘Future Individual Influencer’ award is one I hope inspires the next generation of business leaders to start learning about sustainable finance and the role they can play in driving change within their organisations. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the past 18 months is this: you’re never too junior to make a difference – you just have to be passionate.
