School engagement is essential to building the future workforce of Jersey’s financial services.
Raising awareness and sparking interest about the industry is the first step in attracting new, diverse talent.
We recently attended the Jersey Leadership Conference, hosted by the Government of Jersey’s Children, Young People, Education and Skills department. The event brought together leaders from education and other sectors to explore innovation, hear from inspiring keynote speakers, and connect through networking opportunities.
There were also nominated student leaders from Years 10 – 13, who attended. This conference gave them a chance to connect with like-minded students, reflect on educational and life journeys, build leadership skills and develop meaningful connections that will help them make a difference in their schools, local communities and our island.
The conference gave us a valuable platform to launch our new Teacher Toolkit, an online resource designed to help teachers introduce students to the breadth of careers available within Jersey’s finance industry. The toolkit includes an overview of the industry, role profiles, the soft skills that employers are looking for, pathways into different careers, and a range of helpful materials and FAQs.
At the conference, our exhibitor space allowed us to showcase the Toolkit, talk directly with teachers, and strengthen our partnerships with Jersey’s education sector.

In the same week, we also took part in careers fairs at Victoria College and Les Quennevais School. Students got involved in a true-or-false game tackling common misconceptions about what it is like to work in the finance, as well as this we explored how their subjects and soft skills translate into industry roles and discovered why financial services can be a rewarding path after leaving school.
It’s been fantastic to highlight the opportunities within Jersey’s finance industry and help inspire the next generation of financial services professionals.
