Collaborating with Local Schools to Provide Insights

2 August 2024

Last year, we hosted our first ‘Finance Day’ with Les Quennevais School, which was a tremendous success. Engaging and interesting presentations were delivered by local firms to the Year 8 students.

Following the positive feedback from both the school and finance firms in Jersey, we have not only scheduled another day with Les Quennevais School later this year, but also expanded the initiative to host a second day with Grainville School’s Year 8 students.

These ‘Finance Days’ allow us and finance firms in Jersey the opportunity to interact with younger secondary students, sparking their interest in finance and challenging the perception that finance is only for those who excel in maths.

In addition to educating students on specific elements of the financial services industry, such as compliance, we are also offering sessions on core and practical skills. These include interview skills, relationship management, communications skills and tips about personal banking.

Even if students leave the events feeling that finance isn’t aligned with their future aspirations, they will have gained valuable knowledge that will benefit them in the long run.

We are grateful for the support we have received for this initiative and extend our thanks to all the firms that have generously offered their time.

Thank you to Accuro, Alex Picot Trust Company, Apex Group, Baker & Partners, Barclays, Butterfield Bank, Investec, KPMG in the Crown Dependencies, Mourant, Ogier, PwC, RBS International, RFS Jersey Limited, and SG Kleinwort Hambros. We look forward to seeing this initiative come to life later this year.
