Last week, Jersey expatriates and businesses gathered for the annual Jersey Finance Liberation Day drinks reception in Dubai, marking the 80th anniversary of the Island’s liberation from German occupation during World War II.
Hosted in the elegant garden of the Palace Downtown, the event served as an early commemoration of this significant day in Jersey’s history, which is officially celebrated on May 9, on the Island.
An Kelles, Director – GCC at Jersey Finance, welcomed guests and highlighted the importance of this annual tradition for the Jersey community in Dubai. Alison Hall Deputy Consul General at British Embassy, Dubai also addressed attendees, acknowledging the strong and enduring bond between the UK and its Crown Dependency, particularly on this special anniversary.
The reception provided an opportunity for Jersey folk and firms based in the Gulf region to connect and reflect on the historical significance of Liberation Day.
This pre-celebration in Dubai sets the stage for the main festivities which took place in Jersey on Friday 9 May in Jersey, as the Island marked 80 years of freedom.
