Empowering Futures: Inspiring Islanders Through Careers and Skills Initiatives

The new school year is in full force and so is our calendar for careers and skills initiatives.

We have been working hard with local finance firms, schools and industry partners to bring to life what working in finance really means.

Reconnect

Earlier this month, we hosted our second Reconnect event of the year, inviting Islanders who are looking to make a change in their career, whether it is returning after a break, or switching careers entirely. We wanted to create an environment where people feel comfortable sharing their questions and concerns but also come away feeling empowered and confident in taking their next steps.

We would like to thank our Members who made this event possible by sharing their experiences and supporting others.

  • Emma Pichon, Trident Trust Company Jersey
  • Bianca Saville, Affinity Private Wealth
  • Stefanie Lloyd, Affinity Private Wealth
  • Daniela Ferreira, Affinity Private Wealth
  • Shirley Ann Halford, Accuro
  • Silvia Pinto, Jersey Financial Services Commission
  • Lloyd Adams, TEAM Asset Management
  • Tom Le Claire, Gen II

School Finance Days

Working closely with Les Quennevais and Le Rocquier schools, we hosted two Finance Days for their Year 8 students.

Finance Days are designed to introduce students to the wide range of career opportunities available in our industry through interactive, engaging sessions.

Topics included:

  • Banking
  • Career progression
  • Compliance
  • Fintech
  • Interview skills
  • Investment management
  • Sustainable finance

It was great to see how engaged and curious the students were, asking great questions and getting involved in the sessions.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and supported these initiatives. The involvement of local finance firms was vital in making sure these Finance Days were as successful and beneficial as possible.

Thank you to Alexander Forbes CI Ltd, Barclays, Butterfield Bank Jersey, HSBC Bank plc – Jersey Branch, KPMG in the Crown Dependencies, RBS International, Standard Bank, Standard Chartered, TMF Group, True Ltd, and Zedra Trust Company (Jersey) Limited.

Careers Fairs

This month our Jersey Finance team  also  attended a careers fair at Beaulieu Convent school, engaging with from secondary and primary pupils, about various career pathways, entry routes into finance and how many people they think work in the finance sector in Jersey. (Answers ranged from 100 to 50,000!)

Skills Show 2025

We wrapped up the monht at the Royal Jersey Showgrounds where Skills Jersey hosted their annual Skills Show. This event brings together more than 2,000 young people and career switchers to explore opportunities in education, training and employment. By attending, we are offering attendees valuable face-to-face insights, helping them make informed decisions about their future.

We had students take part in a true or false game, all about working in finance, helping to dispel some of the myths and misconceptions surrounding the industry.

It has truly been a busy month full of engagement with local students and Islanders, helping them to see the value, opportunities and promise of working in Jersey’s finance industry.
