Exploring Wealth and Funds in Malaysia

31 July 2025

We were delighted to host two exclusive roundtables in Kuala Lumpur this month, engaging with key stakeholders from Malaysia’s growing private wealth and funds management space.

Wednesday 23 July

Opportunities in Malaysia’s Private Wealth Industry

Our first event, hosted in partnership with Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill (LHAG), focussed on Malaysia’s new Single Family Office (SFO) tax incentive scheme which is attracting growing interest from ultra-high net worth families across South East Asia.

Led by our Director – South East Asia, Yiow Chong Tan, the roundtable featured insights from Chris Toh, Partner at LHAG and Farah Deba Mohamed Sofian, Partner at Wong Lu Peen & Tunku Alina.

Discussion centered on how offshore jurisdictions such as Jersey and Labuan can support the development of robust, cross-border SFO structures, balancing confidentiality, legacy planning and regulatory compliance.

The roles played by offshore jurisdictions are not just about tax efficiency, it's about designing resilient, future-proof structures that serve generations.

South East Asia Fund Management Trends

Our second roundtable, co-hosted with Spartan Ives Capital, explored regional fund trends, particularly in private equity, venture capital and real estate.

Speakers included Directors and Founding Partners of Spartan Ives Capital, Christopher Wong Zhi Yi and Marcus Tan Kian Han, who joined Yiow in discussing Malaysia’s evolving role as a hub for tech and green investments.

The roundtable explored Malaysia’s transition from plantations and palm oil to tech and green energy, noting the exponential growth in FDI opportunities from foreign investors from the US, mainland China, Singapore and Europe.

Guests learned more about how Jersey structures are being used to access EU and UK markets, including through national private placement regimes and how Jersey Private Funds are complementing Singapore-based vehicles.

We thank our partners LHAG and Spartan Ives Capital, as well as all attendees, for their contributions and look forward to continuing the conversation in Malaysia and the wider South East Asian region.

We’re active across Asia year-round — explore what we have coming up over the next few months.
