Fairway Group Strengthens International Presence with New Madeira Office

|30 September 2025

Jersey headquartered, Fairway Group, the independent provider of Private Client, Corporate, Funds and Pension services, officially opened its new office in Madeira last week, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing international expansion.

Fairway has had a presence in the island since 2018, initially providing operational support to the wider Group. Over recent years, Fairway Madeira has been steadily expanding its capabilities to serve international clients and businesses seeking to establish a presence in Portugal. The new office launch marks the formal introduction of its enhanced, client-facing services on the island.

Madeira offers a strategic gateway to the European market, combining the credibility of an EU-regulated environment with direct access to the single market, allowing companies to operate seamlessly across member states.

Fairway Madeira’s broadened service offering now includes company formation and management, accounting and tax compliance, virtual office solutions, visa support, HR, legal and corporate services, as well as yacht registration.

“Madeira’s International Business Centre is a hidden gem for international businesses, offering EU access, a desirable lifestyle and Portugal’s favourable tax regime. With its strong ties to Jersey and its dynamic and evolving business landscape, Fairway’s decision to expand its presence here felt like a natural extension, both strategically and culturally,” said Sara de Sá Leão, Head of Fairway Madeira.

Over the past year, the Fairway Madeira team has almost doubled in size, reflecting the strong demand for its services. The business expects further growth as the office continues to build its profile as a gateway for international businesses entering the Portuguese and wider European markets.

This development follows a year of significant international expansion for Fairway, which also opened offices in Dubai and Kuwait. Establishing permanent presences in these jurisdictions has not only fuelled the Group’s growth in the Middle Eastern market but also strengthened its ability to collaborate closely with long-standing partners in the region.

“Expanding our Madeira office and broadening our services reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering bespoke solutions for clients across key international markets. Building on our strong Jersey heritage, we are proud to bring the island’s trusted fiduciary and corporate expertise to Madeira, offering international clients the same high-quality, personalised services that have made Fairway a leading independent provider in Jersey,” said Alistair Rothwell, Chief Executive Officer, Fairway Group.

The launch event was attended by Fairway’s senior leadership team, including CEO Alistair Rothwell, COO Matt Ebbrell, and Sara de Sá Leão, alongside a distinguished group of regional officials and partners, underscoring the strong collaboration between Fairway and Madeira’s institutional and business community. Guests included Mr. Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Regional Government of Madeira, and Ms. Ana Filipa Ferreira, Executive Director of Invest Madeira.

Mr. Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Regional Government of Madeira, said “while visiting the Fairway Madeira offices, I had the opportunity to highlight the role of this company, integrated into an international group based in Jersey, that has chosen our region to establish itself and grow. This is a concrete example of the trust that the private sector places in Madeira and our International Business Centre”.
