Now in its fourth year, we are proud to host our annual event for women in the financial services and business sector in South Africa.

Led by our Market Development Consultant for Africa, Dr Rufaro Nyakatawa, this women-only event will focus on the personal journeys of leading professional women who share unique perspectives on their lived experiences that inspire others in the global finance industry.

We are thrilled to welcome our keynote speaker Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka. Dr Mlambo-Ngcuka is the former UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women as well as the former Deputy President of South Africa. A lifelong advocate for gender equality, education and sustainable development, she founded the Umlambo Foundation dedicated to improving education and digital literacy in Southern Africa and led global initiatives like HeForShe. A Hauser Leader at Harvard and Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg, she continues to shape policy through roles in peace-building, human rights and renewable energy.

Dr Mlambo-Ngcuka will share her journey and insights on how she leverages expertise to drive impactful change and how women can embody the values of empowerment to achieve excellence.

Profile

Based in Johannesburg, Dr Rufaro Nyakatawa’s primary focus is developing the strategy for Jersey Finance’s engagement in the South African market. She also plays a vital role in supporting the organisation’s wider activity across the continent.

Dr Phumzile Mlambo-NgcukaFormer Deputy President of South Africa & UN Executive Director for Women

Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is former United Nations Under Secretary General and Executive UN Director for Women.
She engaged in international work at a young age campaigning for girls and young women around the world with the YWCA, where she was head of young women. As the head of UN Women, she was a campaigner for inclusion of women and girls. She established initiatives such as HeForShe for men and boys to address gender equality. She became Minister of Minerals and Energy and worked on sustainability, the positioning of South Africa's mining industry, addressed issues of labour and communities that are related to mining and introduced far reaching reforms and enabled the best relations between mining companies, labour and government. She became Deputy President of South Africa in 2005 to 2008, Dr Mlambo- Ngcuka worked tirelessly on programmes and policies to reduce poverty and inequality in South Africa.
